Fruit sourced from two vineyards, both planted in the ‘90s with classic Ordovician soils - a mixture of mudstone, shale, and granite. Handpicked, basket-pressed and fermented on lees. Fermented and aged in a combination of large-format oak (foudre) and barrique, some new. The structure and integrity of the fruit is intense. The vibrancy of the cool vintage evident.
"This is from a range of vineyards across Beechworth. There’s a fair whack of texture to this wine. It’s not creamy or overtly oak-driven; it’s grapey and soft and lees-induced, or so you’d imagine. It tastes of wheat and pears, cooked apples and hay, cedar and assorted woodsy spices. Trademark chardonnay grilled peach flavours sit in the centre of the palate but there’s a choir going on around them. This is another very good release."
